India Creates History with Record 16 Medals on Day 9 of Commonwealth Games 2026

New Delhi: India delivered its best-ever single-day performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026, clinching a record 16 medals on the ninth day of competition. The country’s impressive medal haul was powered by dominant performances in boxing, para athletics, athletics and judo, further strengthening India’s position in the Games.

Boxers Dominate with Seven Gold Medals

Indian boxers produced an outstanding display by securing seven gold medals. Sakshi Chaudhary, Preeti Pawar, Jasmine Lamboria, Priya Ghanghas, Arundhati Chaudhary, Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal emerged as champions in their respective categories.

India also added three silver medals in boxing through Lovlina Borgohain, Jidumani Singh and Narendra Berwal, underlining the country’s dominance in the sport.

Para Athletics and Track & Field Add to Medal Tally

In the Men’s Shot Put F57 event, Soman Rana won the gold medal, while fellow Indian Shubham Juyal claimed silver, giving India a one-two finish in the competition.

India also excelled in the Triple Jump, where Praveen Chitravela secured the silver medal and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran earned the bronze medal.

Bronze Medals in Judo and Athletics

The medal tally was further boosted by Unnati Sharma, who won a bronze medal in judo, and Gulveer Singh, who finished with a bronze medal in the men’s 5,000 metres.

With a record-breaking 16 medals in a single day, India continued its remarkable campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026, showcasing exceptional performances across multiple disciplines and reinforcing its status as one of the leading sporting nations at the Games.
