New Delhi/Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Meta India Head Arun Srinivas and several social media users in connection with the alleged dissemination of AI-generated videos featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the social media platforms Facebook and Instagram.
According to police sources, the FIR pertains to the alleged circulation of manipulated videos created using artificial intelligence (AI), which were reportedly shared and disseminated through Meta-owned platforms. The case has been registered as part of an investigation into the alleged creation and spread of misleading digital content involving the Prime Minister.
The Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police are examining the origin of the AI-generated videos, the manner in which they were circulated, and whether any provisions of the Information Technology Act, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), or other applicable laws were violated.
The FIR names Meta India Head Arun Srinivas along with several unidentified or identified social media users, depending on their alleged involvement in the dissemination of the content. Investigators are expected to examine digital evidence, including social media posts, user accounts, and electronic records, as part of the probe.
The registration of the FIR marks the beginning of the legal investigation and does not, by itself, establish the guilt of any individual named in the case. Further action will depend on the findings of the investigation conducted by the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police.
The case comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence to generate manipulated or synthetic media, commonly referred to as “deepfakes,” and the challenges such content poses to online safety, misinformation, and digital integrity.
