New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to review the evolving situation arising from the ongoing conflict in West Asia and assess its implications for India.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister called for a unified and coordinated mechanism to regularly monitor developments in the region and ensure the swift implementation of measures aimed at protecting the interests of Indian citizens.
Emphasising the welfare of Indian nationals, particularly those working overseas, Prime Minister Modi directed that a dedicated mechanism be established to provide timely information, emergency assistance and counselling to Indian seafarers and their families affected by the situation.
The meeting also reviewed the country’s preparedness to meet agricultural requirements. The requirement of fertilisers for the upcoming Rabi season was assessed, and the Prime Minister directed officials to take all necessary steps to ensure the uninterrupted availability and supply of fertilisers across the country.
Prime Minister Modi stressed that every possible effort must be made to safeguard the interests of Indian citizens as well as the Indian diaspora from the impact of the ongoing conflict.
Highlighting the importance of long-term energy security, the Prime Minister also emphasised greater use of renewable energy sources to reduce dependence on conventional fuel supplies amid global uncertainties.
During the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary briefed the Prime Minister and members of the CCS on the measures already undertaken by the government to ensure the adequate availability of petroleum products and maintain supply stability despite the geopolitical situation in West Asia.
