New Delhi : External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar said he held a telephonic conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, during which the two leaders discussed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, attacks on commercial shipping in the Black Sea, and the broader global security situation.
In a statement, Dr. Jaishankar said the discussion included recent attacks on commercial vessels and Indian seafarers operating in the Black Sea. He stressed that such attacks by any party are absolutely unacceptable and said India unequivocally condemns them.
The External Affairs Minister said he was briefed by his Ukrainian counterpart on the latest developments related to the Ukraine conflict and the ongoing peace negotiations. Reiterating India’s long-standing position, Dr. Jaishankar emphasized that India has consistently advocated dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path towards resolving the conflict.
He also underlined the fragility of the current international situation, pointing to the multiple conflicts unfolding across different regions of the world. According to him, these crises are adversely affecting fuel, fertilizer and food security, with the Global South bearing a disproportionate share of the impact.
Dr. Jaishankar said both sides agreed to remain in touch and continue consultations on issues of mutual concern.
