New Delhi: Amid continuing student protests over issues related to the country’s examination system, the Central Government has carried out a significant bureaucratic reshuffle in the Ministry of Education, appointing new senior officials to head key departments.
As part of the administrative changes, Naresh Pal Gangwar, an IAS officer of the 1994 Rajasthan cadre, has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Higher Education, succeeding the outgoing Education Secretary. Prior to his new assignment, Gangwar was serving as Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
In another key appointment, T.K. Anil Kumar, a 1995-batch IAS officer of the Karnataka cadre, has been named Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, strengthening the ministry’s leadership at a time when education-related issues remain under intense public and political scrutiny.
The appointments come against the backdrop of ongoing student protests and demands for greater accountability in the examination system. Opposition parties and student organisations have been pressing the government over alleged examination irregularities and paper leak controversies, making education a major issue during the current political session.
While the government has not officially linked the administrative reshuffle to the ongoing protests, the changes have drawn attention as they coincide with growing demands for reforms in the education sector and enhanced transparency in the conduct of competitive examinations.
The newly appointed secretaries are expected to oversee policy implementation and administrative reforms in their respective departments as the government continues efforts to strengthen the country’s education system and address concerns related to examination management and governance.
