New Delhi : According to international media reports, tensions in the Middle East have escalated after the United States announced new military strikes against Iran following attacks on vessels in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has claimed that its forces carried out operations targeting Iranian military capabilities. According to CENTCOM, the strikes destroyed several Iranian air defence systems, missile launch facilities, and more than 60 small boats operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The latest developments have raised concerns over security in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy routes through which a significant portion of global oil and gas shipments pass.

Meanwhile, Qatar has taken diplomatic action after an alleged attack targeting a Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker. Qatar has summoned Iran’s Deputy Ambassador and submitted a formal diplomatic protest over the incident.

In another major development, the United States Department of the Treasury has revoked the general license that previously permitted the sale of Iranian oil, further increasing economic pressure on Tehran.

CENTCOM has warned that Iran would be held responsible if commitments and agreements related to maintaining security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz are not respected.

The latest developments have intensified concerns over a possible wider escalation in the region, with global powers closely monitoring the situation due to its potential impact on international energy markets, maritime security, and Middle East stability.
