President Trump Leaves for NATO Summit in Turkey, Says Visit is Focused on Erdogan Meeting

New Delhi/Washington: US President Donald Trump has departed Washington for the NATO Summit in Turkey, stating that his primary reason for attending the high-level gathering is to meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan , International media reported.

According to media reports speaking to reporters before his departure, Trump said, “I’m going because of Erdoğan,” describing the Turkish leader as a “friend” and a “respected leader.” He indicated that discussions between the two countries could focus on expanding cooperation, particularly in the defence sector.

The NATO summit, scheduled to begin in Ankara, will bring together leaders from member countries to discuss key global security challenges, regional conflicts, and future strategic priorities.

Trump is expected to hold meetings with several world leaders on the sidelines of the summit, with defence partnerships and international security issues likely to dominate the agenda.
