Gurugram : Wheat procurement during the ongoing Rabi season is progressing smoothly in the district, with Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar stating that the process is being carried out strictly as per government norms while ensuring farmers’ convenience.
Sharing details, the DC informed that a total of 12,890 metric tonnes of wheat has been procured so far. Out of this, lifting (transportation) of 1,786.5 metric tonnes has already been completed, while efforts are underway to expedite the lifting of the remaining stock.
Ajay Kumar directed procurement agencies to ensure timely payment to farmers, emphasizing that no farmer should face financial hardship. He also instructed officials to accelerate lifting operations to avoid congestion and space constraints in grain markets (mandis), ensuring uninterrupted arrival of fresh produce.
To strengthen logistics, agencies have been asked to improve storage arrangements for the safe handling of procured wheat. The DC also stressed the need to provide essential facilities and proper arrangements in mandis to ensure farmers’ comfort.
Appealing to farmers, he urged them to bring their produce to mandis only after drying it to the prescribed moisture levels, so that procurement can take place without delays or rejection.
He further directed officials to maintain proper order and prevent any mismanagement in the markets, ensuring a smooth and transparent procurement process. The district administration, he added, is closely monitoring operations to ensure farmers receive fair prices for their produce in a timely and hassle-free manner.
