New Delhi : The Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has entered into an agreement with M/s Scharge Pvt Limited for a project titled “Powering EV Charging Innovation.” The initiative is being supported under the India–UK Collaborative R&D Programme for Industrial Sustainability, in partnership with UK-based Albright Product Design Limited.
The project aims to develop next-generation electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions specifically designed for commercial fleet and depot operations. It brings together Scharge’s advanced EV charger charge controller with a patented automated cable management system developed by its UK partner, creating an integrated solution to enhance efficiency, safety, and usability in high-demand charging environments.
A key feature of the solution is a motorised overhead cable management system tailored for fleet applications. This system is designed to streamline charging operations by reducing manual handling, minimising cable wear and tear, and improving overall user convenience. It is compatible with existing AC Type-2 EV chargers and is expected to significantly improve charging turnaround times while ensuring a safer and more organised depot infrastructure.
By addressing critical operational challenges such as cable management, equipment protection, and workflow optimisation, the technology is poised to boost the efficiency of EV charging depots. It also enhances safety standards by mitigating risks associated with cable damage, vandalism, and operational hazards.
Scharge Pvt Limited, an emerging Indian EV technology firm, focuses on developing advanced power electronics and smart charging solutions. Through this collaboration, the company aims to strengthen indigenous capabilities in EV charging technologies and support the development of scalable and sustainable infrastructure for India’s growing electric mobility sector.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, highlighted the importance of international collaborative R&D initiatives in accelerating the development of industry-relevant technologies. He emphasised that innovation in EV charging infrastructure is critical to enabling the rapid adoption of electric mobility and building a robust, future-ready ecosystem in the country.
The promoter of Scharge Pvt Limited also acknowledged the support extended under the programme, noting that the project will help the company deliver globally competitive EV charging solutions tailored to the evolving needs of fleet operators and infrastructure providers.
