New Delhi : Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said that India is working towards transforming the Indian Navy into the world’s largest and most powerful naval force by 2047.
Highlighting the country’s growing capabilities, Singh stated that India today stands on par with major global powers in the field of shipbuilding. He emphasised that only a handful of countries possess the expertise to construct aircraft carriers, and India is among them.
The Defence Minister underlined that the maritime domain has evolved beyond its traditional role, emerging as a crucial pillar for national resilience, economic growth, technological advancement, and strategic autonomy.
He noted that strengthening naval capabilities is essential for safeguarding India’s interests in an increasingly complex global security environment, while also supporting the nation’s long-term strategic and economic ambitions.
