Gurugram : Sunil Yadav, Office Head and Director (In-Charge), Sub-Regional Office (ESIC), Gurugram, stated that with the implementation of the four labor codes (the Wage Code, the Industrial Relations Code, the Social Security Code, and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code) by the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Government of India, effective November 21, 2025, the path has been paved for a more solid foundation for the overall well-being, security, and social protection of the country’s working class. These codes have been recognized as a historic and visionary initiative ensuring comprehensive reforms in the labor sector. Sunil Yadav was addressing a press conference at the PWD Rest House on Wednesday.
Sunil Yadav stated that the implementation of the Social Security Code 2020 will lead to an unprecedented expansion of ESIC coverage for millions of workers in Haryana. Now, all workers, including gig and platform workers, are being brought under social security coverage, a major reform tailored to the current labor market requirements. He stated that employers will be required to provide free annual health checkups to all employees over the age of 40. The ESIC network has been expanded across the country, benefiting more workers.
He explained that ESIC coverage will be voluntary for establishments with fewer than 10 employees, while coverage will be mandatory for establishments with even a single employee performing hazardous work. Contract workers will be provided health benefits and social security by the primary employer. For the first time, plantation and mine workers have also been brought under social security, allowing them and their families to benefit from ESI services.
Sunil Yadav stated that the new labor codes ensure social justice and strengthen Haryana’s labor ecosystem to global standards. Women will now be allowed to work in all sectors, including night shifts, with their consent and necessary safety measures, providing them equal opportunities in higher-paying employment. Mandating appointment letters for all workers will formalize employment and ensure transparency. Employers will also be legally obligated to pay wages on time. He appealed to all employers and workers in the ESIC Gurugram region to study the new codes and ensure compliance, so they can fully benefit from expanded social security, health, and welfare benefits.
