New Delhi : The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has advised people to report spam calls and SMS through the TRAI DND App. TRAI highlighted that simply blocking numbers on your phone does not stop spam at its source.
Over the past year, TRAI, acting on user complaints, has disconnected and blacklisted over 21 lakh mobile numbers and around one lakh entities involved in sending spam or fraudulent messages. This shows that citizens’ active reporting is key to controlling telecom misuse across the country.
When you report spam via the TRAI DND App, telecom providers can trace, verify, and permanently disconnect the offender’s number. Just blocking a number on your phone only stops it from bothering you personally; it doesn’t prevent the scammer from contacting others with new numbers.
Public Advisory
Citizens are advised to :
-Download the TRAI DND App from official app stores.
Report spam calls or SMS through the app instead of just blocking them.
-Never share personal or banking details over calls, messages, or social media.
-Disconnect immediately if you receive threatening or suspicious calls.
-Report cyber frauds to the National Cybercrime Helpline (1930) or at www.cybercrime.gov.in
.
-Use Sanchar Saathi’s “Chakshu” feature to report misuse of telecom resources.
TRAI remains committed to creating a safe and trustworthy telecom environment. Technology-driven monitoring, strict enforcement, and public participation through the DND App are essential to stop spam at the source.
TRAI especially urges senior citizens, women, and new or less-experienced digital users to stay alert, share this advisory, and report suspicious communications promptly.
