Action Against Single-use Plastic will be Intensified in Gurugram District

Gurugram : An important meeting of the city-level task force, formed to effectively implement the Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016 and completely eliminate banned single-use plastic in Gurugram district, was held at the Municipal Corporation Gurugram office. The meeting was chaired by Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya.

From identifying sources and vehicles to issuing challans—strict instructions issued.

Corporation Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya gave clear instructions in the meeting that sources of single-use plastic in the district should be identified expeditiously. Vehicles transporting such materials should also be monitored. He called for regular inspections of manufacturers, distributors, and wholesalers to prevent the sale and storage of illegal plastic materials. Additionally, increase monitoring and issue fines at markets, malls, shopping centers, mandis, street vendors, restaurants, etc.

The Municipal Commissioner directed that plastic waste shredder machines be installed at the district, block, and panchayat levels. Seized banned plastic materials should be disposed of scientifically as per regulations. The establishment of MRF centers should be expedited. Challans and punitive action against violators should be intensified.

Extensive awareness activities should be organized across the city to inform citizens about the harmful effects of plastic and the banned categories.

Government’s Complete Ban on These Items

According to the Plastic Waste Management Rules, the government has banned the manufacture, use, sale, and storage of single-use plastic. These include plastic ear buds, plastic sheets less than 50 microns thick, plastic carry bags less than 120 microns thick, plastic spoons, forks, straws, plastic cups, plates, glasses, knives, trays, plastic wrapping for invitation cards and sweet boxes, thermocol materials, cigarette box wrapping, balloon sticks, plastic flags, candy sticks, etc. The manufacture, purchase, sale, storage, and use of all these items is completely prohibited.

Officials from the Municipal Corporations of Gurugram and Manesar, Municipal Councils of Sohna and Pataudi Jatauli Mandi, Municipal Council of Farrukhnagar, District Development and Panchayat Department, HSPCB, Police Department, Industry, and other departments attended the meeting. All departments expressed their commitment to further strengthen cooperation and coordination at their respective levels to make Gurugram single-use plastic-free.
