Gurugram : The day is not far when the Delhi Metro will feature luxury coaches like the railway’s premium trains, Shatabdi and Vande Bharat. This facility will be offered as an experiment for Delhi passengers who travel in upper class by paying a higher fare. In the initial phase, this experiment will be conducted in one coach of the Delhi Metro. Considering the response of metro passengers, the possibility of implementing this facility will be considered.
This information was provided by Union Urban Development and Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. The Union Minister was in Gurugram today to inaugurate the Urban Mobility India 2025 Conference held at the Hyatt Hotel. Presenting the outline of the metro rail expansion in the national capital, Delhi, and other major cities and state capitals, he said that passengers find it convenient to travel distances of more than one and a half hours by metro rail. Some metro passengers are demanding luxury amenities similar to those found in premium railway trains.
He stated that people are willing to pay four times the fare for the convenience of luxury coaches. Therefore, the government has suggested that Metro management make half the seats in a coach luxurious. He stated that Metro management will begin work on this soon. He stated that if this experiment proves commercially successful, it could be expanded to all Metro routes. He acknowledged that comfortable seating arrangements are the need of the hour for long-distance travel.
