New Delhi : Amidst the ongoing tariff war between global superpowers and developing countries, significant and positive news has emerged regarding India-US relations. The US and India today signed a significant 10-year defense agreement. US Defense Secretary Peter Hegseth signed the agreement on behalf of the US. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh himself shared the information on social media, calling it a sign of deepening strategic cooperation between the two countries. This defense deal was signed in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, where Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is attending the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ meeting.

It is noteworthy that for more than eight months, tensions have persisted between the two countries over tariffs. Efforts are underway to restore trade relations, but the US President continues to escalate the situation with controversial statements. The US has imposed a 50 percent tariff on Indian products, while an additional 50 percent has been imposed in protest against the purchase of oil from Russia. But this defense deal has shocked not only the people of both countries but also the world. Although the details of this defense agreement have not yet been revealed, it has certainly alarmed anti-India forces, including Pakistan and now Bangladesh.

After the signing of the defense agreement, Rajnath Singh said, “This marks the beginning of a new era in our strong defense partnership.” The Defense Minister stated, “This agreement will provide policy direction and usher in major changes in the India-US defense relationship. It signals our growing strategic coordination and will usher in a new decade of partnership. Defense relations are a strong pillar of our relationship. This is a major step towards ensuring free, open, and law-based navigation in the Indo-Pacific region.”

In his statement to the media on this occasion, the US War Minister Peter Hegseth said, “This defense partnership will prove to be a milestone for regional stability. We are increasing cooperation and information sharing in the defense sector. Our defense relations have never been stronger. This agreement was signed between the two countries on the sidelines of the ASEAN member states meeting in Kuala Lumpur.”

He also shared his message on X . He said that ” I just met with @rajnathsingh to sign a 10-year U.S.-India Defense Framework. This advances our defense partnership, a cornerstone for regional stability and deterrence. We’re enhancing our coordination, info sharing, and tech cooperation. Our defense ties have never been stronger.
