Chandigarh/New Delhi : Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Haryana on October 3.
The purpose of the visit is to review 3 new criminal laws. Uniom Home Minister Shri Shah will inaugurate an exhibition based on these laws in Kurukshetra.
Crime will be curbed, criminals will be finished off!
Main features of the new criminal laws:
- Zero FIR:
FIR can be registered in any police station.
It will be mandatory to transfer it to the concerned police station within 15 days.
- Action against criminals sitting abroad:
Case can be run without appearing in court.
There will be a right to pronounce punishment if found guilty.
- Video recording and transparency:
Videography of search and seizure will be mandatory.
Without recording, the charge sheet will not be valid.
- Video conferencing:
The entire hearing will be done through video conferencing.
It will not be necessary to appear in court for testimony.
- Provisions in sexual crime cases:
Videography of the victim’s statement will be mandatory. - Summary trial:
There will be fast-track hearing in cases with punishment up to 3 years.
More than 40% of the cases of session courts will be resolved.
- Provision of community service:
Community service will be given as punishment in minor crimes. - Strict punishment for mob lynching:
Provision of death penalty or life imprisonment for lynching done by 5 or more people. - Bail provision:
First-time offender will be able to get bail after serving 1/3 of the sentence. - Forensic investigation mandatory:
Help of forensic experts will be mandatory in cases with punishment of 7 years or more. - Digital reform:
Facility to send summons on WhatsApp.
Reduction in government expenditure and speed up the process. Names of the new laws:
Indian Justice Code (BNS) 2023 – will replace the Indian Penal Code.
Indian Civil Security Code – will protect the safety and rights of citizens.
Indian Evidence Act – will give legal recognition to electronic evidence.
