Bhupesh Baghel’s son Chaitanya gets 5-day ED remand by PMLA Court

New Delhi : ED Produced Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, in the PMLA court on Friday (July 18) in the money laundering case related to the alleged liquor scam. The PMLA court sent him on 5-days ED remand. Earlier, he was arrested after the raid.

The ED had sought his five-day remand in the court. He was detained under the Anti-Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after a raid at Chaitanya Baghel’s house in Bhilai city of Durg district.

Chaitanya Baghel was arrested under Section 19 of the Anti-Money Laundering Act. According to sources, Chaitanya was allegedly not cooperating during the raid conducted after new evidence was found in the case. At the same time, a large number of policemen were present outside the house during the raid. Some party supporters were also gathered there.

Earlier, the ED had claimed that Chaitanya Baghel is suspected to be the ‘recipient’ of the proceeds from the alleged liquor scam. The agency also said that the “scam” resulted in “huge loss” to the state exchequer and over Rs 2,100 crore went into the pockets of beneficiaries of the liquor syndicate.
