  • All BWGs should discharge their responsibilities of cleanliness, waste management and environmental protection

Gurugram:  In the second dialogue meeting organized with bulk waste generators (BWG) on Wednesday under the campaign being run by Municipal Corporation Gurugram regarding waste management, Additional Commissioner Yash Jaluka gave a clear message that all BWGs will have to manage waste responsibly at their level. He said that the intention of the Municipal Corporation is not to embarrass anyone, but to present a positive example. Therefore, the policy of ‘name and fame’ should be adopted instead of ‘name and shame’.

2138 BWGs have been registered

The Additional Commissioner informed that till now 2138 BWGs have been registered on the online portal operated by the Municipal Corporation. He appealed that the institutions which have not yet registered should get registered as soon as possible and keep visiting the portal from time to time. Information about new technology and waste management models will be available through the portal. Also, daily reports of waste management must be uploaded on the portal.

Primary management of waste should be done within the premises

In the meeting, the Additional Municipal Commissioner clarified that according to the rules, the waste of any BWG should not go out of their premises, unless it has been segregated and managed. He said that the process of disposal should be adopted by separating wet, dry, organic and other types of waste. Only inert (waste that is not recyclable or reusable) should be sent to the landfill.

Waste disposal through agency – transparency is mandatory

If a BWG hands over the waste to a private or contracted agency, then it is their responsibility to ensure where and how that agency is doing the final disposal of the waste. If the agency is not following the prescribed rules, then the Municipal Corporation should be informed immediately.

Municipal Corporation ready for technical cooperation

If any technical information, solution or training related to waste management is required, the Municipal Corporation will be ready for full cooperation. Additional Municipal Commissioner said that this is a collective effort towards making Gurugram a clean and sustainable city, in which the participation of every BWG is mandatory. The Municipal Corporation is now working with strictness as well as a spirit of cooperation. BWGs need to become partners in garbage solutions, not just waste producers.
