Gurugram : Civil Defence Mock Drill was organised in Gurugram district on Wednesday afternoon under Operation Abhyas to test the safety of citizens and their preparedness during emergency situations, especially air raids. Mock drills were conducted in the district at Ambience Mall, Government School located in Sector 4/7, Salwan School located in Sector 15, Hero MotoCorp Company and Garhi Bajidpur within the stipulated time period. Under the leadership of District Disaster Management Authority Chairman and DC Ajay Kumar, a civil defence exercise was conducted in a planned manner in the district in which adequate arrangements were ensured to protect life and property in case of disaster. Under the guidance of CP Vikas Arora, DCP Headquarters Arpit Jain and the officials of the police department along with their team successfully organised the civil defence mock drill.Operation Abhyas : Citizens were Made Aware of Precautions to be Taken During Air raids 2

DC and Controller Civil Defence Ajay Kumar said that under the nationwide civil security exercise organised by the Home Ministry, Government of India, the mock drill was organised with the aim of testing and strengthening the civil defence mechanism and emergency response in Gurugram district. In the mock drill, the exercise started at 4 pm with the siren at all the identified places and the people present at the designated affected places immediately reached safe places. Wherever people were trapped on the upper floors during the disaster situation, they were safely brought down by Civil Defence and Red Cross and Fire Brigade personnel and Aapda Mitras and were taken to the nearby hospital for treatment.

Operation Abhyas : Citizens were Made Aware of Precautions to be Taken During Air raids 3The DC said that at 4 pm, the air raid warning siren was sounded and a mock drill operation was started at important and strategic places involving all stakeholders including government departments and volunteers. He said that through this mock drill, people were made aware to identify a safe inner room or basement as shelter in case of such a situation. Practice family drills, turn off the lights, gather in a safe area within 1-2 minutes. He said that a control room was set up in the secretariat to monitor this entire situation. From where information was given to the staging area set up in Tau Devi Lal Stadium. As soon as the information was received, the concerned team leaders left for the affected place with police, fire, civil defense, NCC, Red Cross volunteers and important resources used during disasters. He said that during the mock drill, the entire exercise was done on the basis of the information received in the said control room. In the mock drill, the team of departments like police, health, fire brigade, civil defence, Red Cross, SDRF etc. along with the district administration performed their role well.

The DC said that this mock drill has been conducted with the aim of showing what to do and what not to do in an emergency situation and what precautions to take. He appealed to the general public to immediately report any suspicious activity happening in their area to the police and local authorities. The state government has formally implemented the Incident Response System (IRS) at both the district and state levels under the Disaster Management Act, 2005. The initiative aims to streamline the response mechanism, reduce confusion during emergency situations and reduce dependence on ad hoc measures. He said that the aim of this exercise is to prepare citizens for any emergency and reduce the possibility of mass panic during a critical situation.

Operation Abhyas : Citizens were Made Aware of Precautions to be Taken During Air raids 5In view of the mock drill, DC Ajay Kumar and CP Vikas Arora also held a meeting with all the members of the authority and other dignitaries and reviewed the arrangements to be made to deal with the disaster situation. An appeal was also made to black out in the mock drill organized in view of the air strike in the urban and rural areas of Gurugram district from 7.50 to 8.00 pm on Wednesday. Due to which the citizens of the district also gave their cooperation in the mock drill of the district administration.

Operation Abhyas was successfully organized by Additional Deputy Commissioner Jagnivas, SDM of Badshahpur Ankit Chaukse, DCP Traffic Rajesh Mohan, DCP East Gaurav Rajpurohit, SDM of Gurugram Paramjit Chahal, CTM Ravindra Kumar, SDM of Sohna Sanjeev Singla, SDM of Pataudi Dinesh Luhach, JC Jaiveer Yadav, Vishal Kumar, Sumit Kumar, Akhilesh Kumar, Chief Warden of Civil Defense NC Sharma, Warden Mohit Sharma and officials of various departments.
