Chandigarh, March 22 : Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij said that Ambala Cantonment Railway Station will be developed like an airport and redesigned in phases with a budget of ₹300 crores. He directed railway officers to ensure maximum facilities for passengers and shared his suggestions for modernizing the station.
During a review meeting with various department officers regarding development projects in Ambala Cantonment, Cabinet Minister Anil Vij assessed ongoing works, discussed departmental progress, and expressed displeasure over project delays, instructing officials to complete them promptly.
Railway officers briefed Sh.Vij on the ₹300 crore modernization plan, with ₹100 crore allocated for the first phase, aiming for a redesign by 2060. The plan includes expanding platforms, increasing lifts, improving parking and enhancing entry/exit points. A video presentation of the redesign was also shown to the minister.
Sh. Vij also discussed other railway projects, including Machhonda Railway Overbridge and a freight terminal and expressed discontent over the absence of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) in the meeting.
Sh. Vij Orders Cleaning of Drains Before Monsoon
During the meeting, Sh. Vij directed the Irrigation Department and Municipal Council to clean major drains and sewers including Mahesh Nagar Drain and Gudgudia Nala. He instructed widening Gudgudia Nala outside urban areas and checking Mahesh Nagar Pump House before the rainy season to ensure smooth drainage into the Tangri River. He also directed connecting the pump house to a hotline for uninterrupted power supply and directed jet pressure cleaning of all stormwater pipelines.
Minister Unhappy with Slow Construction of Bridges
Sh.Vij expressed dissatisfaction over the slow construction of bridges at 12 Cross Road and Kabadi Bazaar over Gudgudia Nala and instructed officials to expedite the work to avoid inconvenience to the public.
Traffic Light Installation at Key Locations
He directed the installation of traffic lights at Tangri Dam Chowk, with officers confirming that tenders have been issued. He also directed the installation of lights at GT Road near Maharaja Dhaba, Lal Kurti Crossing, and Staff Road. He also instructed officials to improve road connectivity from Maharaja Dhaba via Outer Large Road to Subhash Park by removing electric poles, trees and other obstacles. Additionally, he ordered the construction of a modern dairy complex in Brahman Majra to begin soon.
Discussion on Development of Subhash Park
Sh.Vij discussed the installation of a synthetic walking track at Subhash Park and issued strict instructions to prevent tractors and trolleys from entering the park to avoid damage to pathways. He also directed repairs for damaged open gym equipment and swings and expedited the establishment of an e-library in the park’s main hall.
Cabinet Minister Reviews Complaints on Swachh Haryana App
Sh. Vij reviewed sanitation work in Ambala Cantonment, instructing municipal officials to improve cleanliness and utilize the Swachh Haryana app efficiently. Officials reported that complaints regarding sanitation and streetlights are resolved within three hours. The minister also directed the deployment of dedicated teams for cleanliness in different areas.
GT Road Beautification and Fancy Lighting
Sh. Vij instructed NHAI officers to install fancy lights along GT Road from Ambala Cantonment Railway Station to Tangri River and plant decorative plants on the road dividers. He emphasized that the international-level Shaheed Memorial under construction should have well-maintained roads and service lanes for smooth traffic flow.
During the meeting other Development Projects discussed in which Multi-level car parking at Railway Road with lift installation, Widening the Sahapur-Panchkula Highway to four lanes, Progress on the Ring Road project, which is 50% completed, Completing the remaining construction of Babyal Road, Laying sewage lines in Ambala Cantonment under the Amrut-2 project, Establishing the NCDC center in Nangal with the Health Department, Construction of a homeopathy college in Chandpura, Road construction alongside the freight corridor railway line, Improving local bus services with the Transport Department, Increasing booster capacity under the canal water supply scheme, Developing a Night Food Street and Completing pending work at Bank Square were included.
The review meeting was attended by DC Ajay Singh Tomar, Municipal Commissioner Sachin Gupta, SDM Vinesh Kumar, SE Harpal Singh along with officials from various departments and BJP leaders Rajiv Dimple, Kiran Pal Chauhan, Bijendra Chauhan, BS Bindra, and Shyam Sunder Arora.
