Gurugram, March 19 : The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram has almost completed the work of online registration of bulk waste generators (BWG) located in the corporation area. Now special monitoring will be done on those BWGs who are not doing waste management. Under this, the inspectors of the BWG monitoring cell will go to their respective areas every day and conduct checking campaigns and challans will be issued to those who do not follow the rules.
The above decision was taken in the review meeting of the BWG monitoring cell held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr. Balpreet Singh. It was told in the meeting that 2544 BWGs have been registered on the online portal in the corporation area. The members of the BWG monitoring cell said that they are checking the BWGs coming to their areas every day and the process of issuing advisory to them has also been almost completed.
The Additional Municipal Commissioner said that the BWG monitoring cell inspectors should continuously check the BWGs and especially start an effective campaign for challaning in the last week of every month. He said that strict compliance of Solid Waste Management Rules-2016 will be ensured and violators will be fined. He said that each team should inspect at least half a dozen sites daily and ensure their action impartially without any discrimination or pressure.
Additional Municipal Commissioner clarified that under Solid Waste Management Rules-2016, it is mandatory for all bulk waste generators located in the corporation area to manage the waste at their own level in their premises. Under this, the waste should be divided into different categories i.e. wet, dry and hazardous waste and its management should be ensured separately. He said that fertilizer or biogas can be made from wet waste, while dry and hazardous waste should be disposed of through the concerned recycler. He said that under the rule, the waste of BWG premises should not go out, only the inert should be sent to the secondary garbage collection points of the corporation.
