Responsible and fact-based media can play an important role in nation building: VC Prof. (Dr.) Anil Kumar Saini
Gurugram, September 30, 2026: The School of Emerging Media and Creator Economy (SEMCE) at K.R. Mangalam University organised a special expert lecture on ‘Role of Media in Nation Building’ to familiarise students with the evolving media landscape, responsible journalism and the contribution of media to nation building.
The programme featured Rajesh Shandilya, Senior Journalist and Editor, Vishva Samvad Kendra, and Tarun Singh, Advocate and District Prachar Pramukh, Bhondsi, as expert speakers. The speakers interacted with students and discussed various aspects of the changing media environment, the responsibilities of journalists, the importance of credible information and the impact of media on society.
Rajesh Shandilya highlighted that in the digital era, the role of media extends beyond simply reporting news. He said media serves as an important platform for creating awareness, highlighting social issues and facilitating constructive dialogue in society.
He encouraged students aspiring to enter journalism to verify facts, provide credible information and adhere to ethical values in their professional work. He also briefed the students about the objectives and role of Vishva Samvad Kendra.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Anil Kumar Saini, Vice Chancellor, K.R. Mangalam University, said that media has an important role in creating social awareness, promoting positive dialogue and contributing to nation building.
“Through responsible and fact-based journalism, young people can make a meaningful contribution towards positive social change. The University is continuously working to connect students with the values of service, sensitivity and social responsibility through practical learning and expert guidance,” he said.
The interactive session provided students with an opportunity to engage directly with the expert speakers. Students raised questions on media, journalism, social media, the social responsibilities of media and the role of communication in nation building. The experts responded to their queries and shared insights drawn from their professional experiences.
The programme was organised under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Amit Chawla, Dean, SEMCE, who said that interactions with media professionals help students connect classroom learning with real-world media practices and develop a stronger practical understanding of the profession.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Manav Sharma, Assistant Professor, along with the faculty members of SEMCE. Poorti Sharma, Tanya, Mehul, Aman Dev, Reva Pal and Pallavi Shukla, along with other students, were also present on the occasion.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks to the expert speakers. The lecture provided students with valuable insights into responsible journalism, the social responsibilities of media and its role in nation building.
