New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Taranjit Singh Sandhu held a meeting with the MCD Commissioner, Delhi Police Commissioner and Vice Chairman, DDA, and directed officials to conduct a comprehensive safety audit of all parks across Delhi within one week.
The LG stressed the need to ensure that parks have adequate lighting, effective security arrangements, regular police patrolling and proper cleanliness, with the objective of making these public spaces safer and more accessible for residents.
Delhi Police has also been directed to strengthen beat patrolling around park premises, including the deployment of Pink Police personnel at suitable locations to enhance the sense of security, particularly for women and other visitors.
During the meeting, officials from the DDA and MCD were also asked to explore partnerships with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), private entities and local educational institutions for the sustained maintenance and upkeep of parks.
The LG emphasised that safe, clean and accessible parks are an important part of improving the quality of life for Delhi’s citizens, and called for coordinated efforts by all concerned agencies to achieve this objective.
