New Delhi : The Delhi Cabinet has approved the Delhi Private University Bill, paving the way for the establishment of new private universities in the national capital.
Welcoming the decision, Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the move would benefit nearly 1.5 lakh students, many of whom currently have to pursue higher education outside Delhi or opt for correspondence courses due to limited availability of university seats.
Addressing media persons Delhi Minister Sirsa said the proposed universities would provide students with a full-fledged campus environment, enabling them to grow academically and develop a broader outlook.
Describing the decision as a historic milestone, he said that for the first time since the establishment of the University of Delhi during the British era, the capital is set to establish new universities of comparable scale and stature.
He added that the government is creating world-class educational infrastructure whose impact would extend beyond Delhi and India, benefiting future generations. Sirsa also congratulated Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for their leadership in advancing the initiative.
