BRICS Anti-Drug Agencies Meeting Concludes in Guwahati with Adoption of Landmark Declaration

Guwahati : The BRICS Heads of Anti-Drug Agencies Meeting concluded in Guwahati, Assam, with member countries reaffirming their collective commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking and related forms of transnational organised crime.

A key achievement of the meeting was the unanimous adoption of the Guwahati Declaration, which reflects the shared resolve of BRICS nations to enhance international cooperation and strengthen coordinated efforts against the global drug menace.

The Guwahati Declaration calls for greater and timely exchange of information, intelligence inputs, and best practices among BRICS anti-drug agencies, while ensuring compliance with respective national laws and international commitments.

The declaration also underlines the importance of adopting innovative technologies, digital solutions, and data-driven strategies to improve law enforcement capabilities and regulatory mechanisms in addressing evolving challenges linked to drug trafficking networks.

The meeting was held under India’s BRICS Chairship, with the declaration highlighting a common vision among member nations for stronger collaboration, improved coordination, and collective action towards creating a safer and healthier global community.

Leading the Indian delegation, Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Shri Anurag Garg, called upon BRICS anti-drug agencies to continue working in the spirit of the Guwahati Declaration and strengthen joint efforts towards achieving the shared goal of a drug-free world.

The meeting marked an important step in deepening international cooperation against narcotics trafficking and protecting future generations from the harmful impact of illegal drugs.
