New Delhi : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that the state is keen to play a greater role in strengthening the India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, with a particular focus on semiconductors, clean energy, and Japanese language training.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister stated that he met the Japanese Ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi, at his official residence in New Delhi, where the Ambassador hosted him for Cha-no-yu, the traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
Sarma described the interaction as a warm cultural exchange and expressed gratitude to the Ambassador for the hospitality. He noted that the meeting also included a productive discussion on expanding cooperation between Assam and Japan in emerging sectors.
According to the Chief Minister, the two sides reviewed outcomes from the recently concluded India–Japan Summit, with a special emphasis on opportunities for Assam in semiconductor research, clean energy development, and Japanese language training initiatives.
He further reiterated Assam’s commitment to actively contributing to the growing strategic partnership between India and Japan, highlighting the state’s readiness to attract Japanese investment and technical collaboration.
The meeting reflects the expanding engagement between Assam and Japan across sectors such as industry, technology, skill development, and infrastructure. Assam has been actively positioning itself as an emerging destination for Japanese investment, particularly in advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, and human resource development, as part of its broader strategy to strengthen global partnerships.
