Chandigarh : Haryana Police has achieved another major success in its ongoing campaign against crime and organised criminal activities in the state. Continuing its sustained crackdown on criminals, Rewari Police arrested two notorious and wanted criminals following a police encounter. The accused opened fire on the police team with the intention to kill. In self-defence, the police retaliated, injuring both accused before apprehending them. Two illegal pistols, empty cartridges, and a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle without a registration number plate used in the crime were recovered from their possession. Both accused are wanted in more than 24 heinous criminal cases.

Director General of Police, Haryana, Shri Ajay Singhal, IPS, said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini, the Haryana Government is firmly committed to making the state crime-free. In line with this commitment, Haryana Police is taking continuous and effective action against criminals. He said that the police are acting with determination, modern technology, and well-planned strategies to curb crime. The DGP further stated that any criminal who attacks the police or challenges the rule of law will be dealt with strictly within the framework of law. Appreciating the courage, prompt decision-making, and tactical professionalism displayed by the police team involved in the operation, he said that Haryana Police will continue to work with complete resolve to ensure the safety of citizens and instil fear of law among criminals.
Deadly Attack on Police Team; Bulletproof Jacket Saves Officer’s Life
Superintendent of Police, Rewari, Shri Hemendra Kumar Meena, said that the CIA Dharuhera team achieved this significant success as part of the district police’s ongoing campaign against criminals. He informed that two prime accused involved in the firing incident at the residence of Ratiram alias Ratiya Gurjar, a resident of village Bakhapur, on the night of June 28 with the intention to murder him, had been absconding. Acting on reliable intelligence, the CIA Dharuhera team laid a naka near the Sabi Railway Bridge. At around 10:30 p.m., the police signalled two suspicious motorcycle-borne persons to stop, but they rammed through the barricades and opened indiscriminate fire on the police party. One bullet struck the bulletproof jacket of SI Fakruddin, saving his life. The accused then attempted to flee towards nearby fields while continuously firing at the police. One bullet passed dangerously close to Inspector Yogesh Hooda’s ear, while SI Pradeep Kumar also had a narrow escape.
Retaliatory Action in Self-Defence; Both Accused Injured and Arrested
Amid continuous firing by the accused, the police team retaliated in self-defence. During the exchange of fire, one bullet hit the right leg of accused Mohan Soni, while another bullet struck the left leg of accused Govind alias Jhamman. Both accused were overpowered and arrested on the spot after sustaining injuries. They were taken into police custody and shifted to the Rewari Trauma Centre for medical treatment.
Two Illegal Pistols and Unregistered Motorcycle Recovered
Police recovered two illegal pistols, empty cartridges, and the Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle without a registration number plate used in the offence from the possession of the accused. A fresh case has been registered against them at Police Station Kasola under various provisions of law, including obstructing a public servant from discharging official duty, attempting to murder police personnel, possession of illegal arms, and other relevant sections. Further investigation is underway.
Both Accused Wanted in More Than 24 Heinous Criminal Cases
The arrested accused have been identified as Mohan Soni, a resident of village Bolni, and Govind alias Jhamman, a resident of village Jokhawas, District Khairthal-Tijara, Rajasthan. According to police records, both accused are involved in more than 24 serious criminal cases registered in Haryana and Rajasthan, including murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, robbery, dacoity, extortion, theft, and offences under the Arms Act. Of these, Govind is involved in 16 criminal cases, while Mohan Soni is involved in 8 criminal cases.
