New Delhi : Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is scheduled to undertake her first official visit to India from July 1 to 3, 2026, with New Delhi set to host the visit’s key engagements.

Although Guwahati was also considered as a possible destination and proposed to the Japanese side, the itinerary is expected to remain limited to the national capital due to time constraints and logistical considerations.

Sources said Prime Minister Takaichi’s domestic commitments have left a narrow window for the visit, making it difficult to include travel outside Delhi.

During her visit, Takaichi is expected to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with discussions likely to focus on further strengthening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership and expanding cooperation across key sectors.

Japanese Ambassador to India ONO Keiichi also confirmed the visit, announcing that Prime Minister Takaichi will arrive in New Delhi on July 1 for her maiden visit to India as Prime Minister.

According to the Ambassador, the two Prime Ministers will hold a summit meeting and jointly participate in a major India-Japan economic forum, which will bring together leading business representatives from both countries.

The forum is expected to explore new avenues for trade, investment and economic collaboration, while marking another significant step in deepening the longstanding partnership between India and Japan.
