New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party Parliamentary Party has directed all its Members of Parliament to ensure full attendance in both Houses of Parliament over a crucial three-day period, signaling the importance of upcoming legislative business.
The directive, issued by Office Secretary Shiv Shakti Nath Bakshi, mandates the compulsory presence of BJP MPs in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha from April 16 to April 18, 2026. This “three-line whip” applies to all party members, including Union Ministers, and leaves no room for absence, as no leave will be granted during this period.
The whip underscores the party’s intent to ensure maximum participation and discipline among its lawmakers during what is expected to be a significant parliamentary session. Members have been instructed to strictly comply and maintain uninterrupted presence in the House throughout the three days.
The move comes in the backdrop of an appeal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has reached out to leaders across political parties in both Houses seeking their support for the proposed Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. In his communication, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for collective political will to pass the landmark legislation, urging MPs to rise above party lines and actively contribute to the debate.
Describing the upcoming discussion, scheduled to begin on April 16, as historic, Modi called it an opportunity to strengthen democratic values and reaffirm the country’s commitment to inclusive progress. He highlighted that the issue goes beyond political affiliations, representing a broader national objective.
In his message, the Prime Minister stressed that true societal progress is only possible when women are empowered to participate fully in decision-making and leadership roles. He linked women’s empowerment directly with the vision of building a “Viksit Bharat,” noting that their involvement is essential for achieving long-term national development goals.
He also pointed to the growing presence of women across diverse sectors in India, from space exploration and sports to the armed forces and the start-up ecosystem. Acknowledging their achievements, he said Indian women continue to demonstrate determination, ambition, and capability, contributing significantly to the nation’s advancement.
With the BJP enforcing strict attendance and the government pushing for broad-based consensus, the upcoming parliamentary debate is expected to be both intensive and consequential, potentially shaping the future trajectory of women’s representation in India’s political landscape.
