New Delhi : Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu chaired a high-level review meeting with stakeholder agencies to address the persistent parking and mobility bottlenecks in the national capital. The review focused on coordinated action, faster implementation of parking infrastructure and measures to ease congestion.
The LG outlined a multi-pronged action plan covering enforcement, infrastructure development, technology and better coordination among agencies.
Key Directions on Parking and Mobility
The action plan includes:
- Crackdown on illegal parking at locations where authorised parking facilities are already available.
- Coordinated development of new parking spaces and infrastructure to meet growing demand.
- Fast-tracking of multi-level and smart parking facilities.
- Rationalisation of parking rates across Delhi.
- Moving ahead with a Unified Parking Authority to ensure integrated management of parking facilities.
- Expansion of FASTag-enabled park-and-ride facilities to promote seamless parking and public transport connectivity.
- Integration of enforcement mechanisms, technology and parking data for more effective monitoring and management.
The review emphasised the need for faster execution, stronger inter-agency coordination and reduced congestion, with the broader objective of making Delhi more commuter-friendly under the vision of Viksit Dilli.
Recent official Delhi Traffic Police updates also identify Taranjit Singh Sandhu as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and note his review of traffic enforcement, modernisation and road-decongestion initiatives.
