Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, EU Trade Commissioner Review India-EU FTA Progress at G20 Meeting

New Delhi/Milwaukee, USA: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held a meeting with Maroš Šefčovič, European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, on the sidelines of the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee.

The two sides reviewed progress towards the signing and entry into force of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA). India and the European Union concluded negotiations on the FTA on 27 January 2026, and the European Commission has since moved forward with the process for its signature and conclusion. Goyal and Šefčovič also exchanged views on progress under the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC), meaningful reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and shared priorities under the G20 framework. DD India

The India-EU FTA is aimed at deepening trade and investment ties and creating a more predictable framework for businesses on both sides. The EU is currently India’s third-largest trading partner, with bilateral goods trade valued at €118 billion in 2025, according to the European Commission. Trade and Economic Security

The meeting comes as India and the EU continue to work through the formal procedures required to move the concluded agreement towards signature and eventual implementation. Trade and Economic Security
