External Affairs Minister Dr. S.  Jaishankar Meets Sri Lankan JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva, Reaffirms India’s Support

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva and his delegation from Sri Lanka in New Delhi on Thursday.

Following the meeting, Jaishankar said the discussions focused on strengthening the deep bonds of friendship between India and Sri Lanka. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s continued progress and prosperity as a trusted partner.

Silva is leading a five-member JVP delegation that is on a five-day visit to India from September 27 to October 1. The visit has included engagements with Indian political and government representatives and discussions on bilateral cooperation and organisational experiences.

The Jaishankar-Silva meeting comes against the backdrop of India and Sri Lanka’s longstanding relationship, encompassing development cooperation, trade and investment, connectivity, education, culture, energy and other areas. India has also been a major development partner for Sri Lanka, with assistance spanning infrastructure, housing, healthcare, education and livelihood projects. mea.gov.in

Jaishankar said India would continue to stand with Sri Lanka as a trusted partner, supporting the island nation’s development and prosperity.
