New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever in New Delhi, reviewing the entire spectrum of India-Belgium relations and discussing ways to further strengthen the multifaceted partnership between the two countries.
The discussions focused on key areas including defence, trade and investment, innovation, semiconductors, fintech, critical minerals, people-to-people ties, and academic and research cooperation.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the close and growing India-Belgium partnership.
Major Push to Trade and Business Ties
During the talks, India and Belgium agreed to double bilateral trade over the next five years. The two sides also decided to establish a Business Forum, Investment Forum and Consular Dialogue to provide greater institutional support to economic and people-to-people exchanges.
The agreements are aimed at creating new opportunities for businesses, investors and institutions in both countries while further strengthening bilateral economic engagement.
MoUs Exchanged in Key Areas
Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister De Wever also witnessed the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between India and Belgium.
The agreements cover cooperation in defence, renewable energy, combating crime and diplomatic training.
The latest talks and agreements are expected to give fresh momentum to India-Belgium cooperation across strategic, economic, technological and institutional areas, while further expanding the partnership between the two countries.
