New Delhi : India has mobilised humanitarian assistance and rescue support for Nepal following the floods, with two relief aircraft carrying essential supplies already dispatched and a third flight being considered, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
Jaiswal said the first relief aircraft departed from New Delhi on the evening of August 26, carrying 10 tonnes of relief material. The consignment included temporary tents, blankets, hygiene kits, solar lamps and medicines.
The second aircraft departed at around 10:30 a.m. on August 27, carrying 37.5 tonnes of relief supplies. The consignment included tents, blankets, hygiene kits, solar lamps, dewatering pumps, kitchen sets, pump sets, medicines and various food items.
The MEA spokesperson said India was considering dispatching a third humanitarian relief flight on the evening of August 28. The proposed consignment would carry approximately 12 to 13 tonnes of supplies, including portable generator sets, dignity kits, food items, water-purification tablets and medicines.
Jaiswal said the materials were being arranged in response to requirements communicated by the Nepali side. He added that additional support systems would also accompany the third consignment as part of India’s ongoing humanitarian assistance and rescue efforts.
The relief operations are being coordinated alongside efforts by Indian authorities to trace, assist and evacuate Indian nationals affected by the flood situation in Nepal.
