During the meeting, the delegation highlighted challenges faced by the construction sector and workers amid measures aimed at controlling air pollution in the national capital.
Rekha Gupta acknowledged the need to tackle Delhi’s air pollution while stressing that the city must also continue to generate employment, develop infrastructure and sustain economic growth. She said the Government would engage with industry stakeholders to explore practical and science-based solutions that safeguard the environment without unnecessarily disrupting legitimate economic activity.
The Chief Minister emphasised that environmental protection and development should not be viewed as competing priorities. She said Delhi needs an approach that allows clean air, employment opportunities and infrastructure development to progress together.
The Government is expected to continue consultations with representatives of the construction and related sectors to examine ways of addressing their concerns while ensuring compliance with pollution-control measures.
The meeting comes amid recurring concerns over the impact of GRAP restrictions on construction workers, contractors and the wider infrastructure sector, particularly during periods of severe air pollution in Delhi-NCR.
Gupta said the objective would be to find a sustainable balance between environmental protection and economic activity, ensuring that efforts to improve Delhi’s air quality do not come at the cost of livelihoods and essential development projects.
“A cleaner Delhi and a growing Delhi must move forward together,” the Chief Minister said, underlining the Government’s stated approach of combining pollution control with continued economic and infrastructure development.
