New Delhi : President Droupadi Murmu graced the 12th National Handloom Day celebrations at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, where she presented the Sant Kabir Handloom Awards and the National Handloom Awards 2025 to honour outstanding contributions to India’s handloom sector.
Addressing the gathering, the President said that the handloom tradition has been an integral part of India’s civilizational journey for centuries, reflecting the country’s extraordinary cultural diversity while preserving the unique identity of its regions.
She emphasized that India’s rich handloom heritage can achieve greater global recognition by combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, strong branding, and integration into global value chains.
President Murmu also highlighted the role of young entrepreneurs, designers, and startups in creating new opportunities for the sector, expressing confidence that innovation and collaboration would help take Indian handloom to new heights in domestic and international markets.
