New Delhi: Members of the Opposition staged a protest in the Parliament premises on Monday over the alleged Ram Temple donation controversy and the absence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah from the ongoing Parliament session.
As part of the demonstration, Opposition MPs placed a donation box near the Parliament gate and symbolically contributed money to it while accusing the government of failing to address allegations related to donations and offerings made to the Shri Ram Mandir. The protest also focused on the alleged police action against students during recent demonstrations.
Addressing the media, Congress General Secretary (Organisation) and Lok Sabha MP K. C. Venugopal questioned the Home Minister’s absence from Parliament. He said Amit Shah had actively participated in previous sessions, but had not attended the current one despite demands for an explanation over the alleged atrocities against students. Venugopal said Parliament and the country deserved to know who ordered the alleged lathi-charge and action against the protesting students.
Samajwadi Party President and Lok Sabha MP Akhilesh Yadav also criticised the government, saying those who once spoke about adopting parliamentary constituencies had now “abandoned Parliament like an orphan.” He asserted that the BJP would not be able to evade accountability and maintained that the government would have to answer questions raised by the Opposition on both the student protest issue and the Ram Temple donation controversy.
The Opposition said it would continue to press the government inside and outside Parliament, demanding statements from the Home Minister and Prime Minister on the issues raised during the protest.
