New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu participated in a Mega Plantation Drive at Kamla Nehru Ridge on Friday, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to the ecological restoration and long-term conservation of Delhi’s Ridge forests.
The plantation drive was organised by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance the city’s green cover and restore the ecological balance of the Ridge, which serves as one of Delhi’s most important natural forest ecosystems.
During the event, the Lieutenant Governor planted native saplings along the loop trail and took a walk through various restored sections of the forest. He reviewed several ecological restoration projects undertaken in the area, including a revived lake, a butterfly conservatory, and a hydrological restoration site, which have been developed to improve biodiversity and strengthen the natural ecosystem.
Highlighting the significance of these restoration initiatives, the Lieutenant Governor described them as visible examples of nature reclaiming and rejuvenating the Ridge landscape through sustained conservation efforts.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to preserving and enriching Delhi’s invaluable green heritage by promoting afforestation, ecological restoration, and sustainable environmental practices. He emphasized that protecting the Ridge forests is essential for improving air quality, conserving biodiversity, and ensuring environmental sustainability in the national capital.
The Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu also underlined the importance of continued collaboration between government agencies, environmental experts, and citizens to safeguard Delhi’s natural ecosystems and create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Viksit Dilli for future generations.
