India-US Strategic Partnership Gains Momentum; Jaishankar-Rubio Discuss Trade, Defence, AI and Global Issues in Manila

New Delhi/Manila, Philippines: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a productive bilateral meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Manila on the sidelines of the ASEAN-related meetings. He shared this information on social meda platform ‘X’ .

He said that the discussions focused on key priorities under the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, including trade and tariffs, energy cooperation, defence and security ties, critical minerals, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Following the meeting, Dr. Jaishankar said that both sides also exchanged views on important regional, global, and multilateral issues of mutual interest, highlighting the continued coordination between India and the United States on matters of strategic importance.

He said the engagement reflected the commitment of both countries to further strengthen cooperation across key sectors and deepen their partnership based on shared interests and common objectives.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also on ‘X’ described the meeting as “very productive” and said that Secretary Rubio’s discussions with Dr. Jaishankar took place on the sidelines of ASEAN engagements.

The US Ambassador also hinted at a possible future visit by Secretary Marco Rubio to India later this year, saying, “Secretary Rubio might be coming back to India later this year… stay tuned.”

The meeting comes amid continued efforts by India and the US to expand cooperation in areas including strategic technologies, defence, energy security, trade, and global challenges.
