New Delhi : A Spanish Member of the European Parliament, Irene Montero, has urged Spain to withdraw from the NATO, arguing that the alliance could expose the country to growing geopolitical risks.
Speaking on the issue of global tensions, Montero stated that the actions of the United States and Israel are creating serious challenges for international peace and stability. She also criticized what she described as aggressive policies linked to former US President Donald Trump.
Montero emphasized that ordinary citizens should not bear the economic burden arising from international conflicts. She called on authorities to introduce urgent measures, including price controls on energy, food, and essential commodities, along with making public transport services free for the public.
Highlighting Spain’s security concerns, she argued that maintaining close military alignment with the United States through NATO may increase the country’s vulnerability and suggested that Spain should reconsider its continued membership in the alliance.
