Gurugram : Union Housing, Urban Affairs and Energy Minister Mr. Manohar Lal said that the objective of the 18th Urban Mobility India Conference and Exhibition is to provide better transportation systems and services to maintain accessibility in urban areas with the theme of easy mode of travel. With the policy-based suggestions presented at this conference, commendable steps will be taken towards bringing positive changes in urban areas and providing public services. The Union Minister formally inaugurated the three-day 18th Urban Mobility India Conference and Exhibition held in Gurugram on Friday with the lighting of the lamp. The Chief Guest inaugurated the developmental exhibition showcasing urban development and mobility set up on the premises and also visited it.

Announcements made for the implementation of new urban development-focused schemes :

Chief guest at the conference, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, made three major announcements aimed at improving public convenience and developing better infrastructure through his ministry. He stated that their launch would usher in a new wave of development. He announced the establishment of Delhi Metro International Limited (DMIL), which will work towards expanding the metro network beyond India and other countries. A Mass Rapid Transit System will be developed, with DMRC as a partner. This system will ensure better interconnection of the metro system, ensuring safe transportation facilities and services for the public, with safety standards and cybersecurity systems. To improve the quality of metro services and foster new innovations, the Delhi Metro Rail Academy will be established by the Urban Affairs Ministry. This establishment will accelerate capacity building and, along with the Center of Excellence, will provide a new direction to metro services through innovative approaches. He stated that while the national capital has several large convention centers, Gurugram, one of the largest cities, also needs one. He discussed this with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and will work towards building a convention center equipped with state-of-the-art facilities there.

Union Minister Manohar Lal said that under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is progressing self-reliantly. By integrating transport networking, the country will be a leader in achieving recognition as a developed nation by 2047, in line with the Make in India philosophy. He stated that positive changes are being made in urban areas as needed. The government is fully focused on urban transportation. He stated that India currently ranks third in the world in providing metro services and will surpass the United States in the next three years to become one of the leading nations. The Central Government is working to provide public amenities with new technology, and through this type of conference, we will work on innovative methods with the support of experts.

 

The country’s urban future is being reshaped with a new thinking: Mr. Tokhan Sahu

Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Tokhan Sahu, in his address, said that this conference is a strong step towards achieving the goals of the year 2047. He said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, we are shaping the country’s urban future with new thinking, new energy, and new commitment. This conference unites both our cultural heritage and our resolve for development. He said that India is today going through a transformative era of infrastructure development, where urban transportation is not just a means of transportation, but has become a powerful tool for economic development, environmental balance, and social equality.

Mr. Sahu said that this year’s conference focuses on the extremely important and timely topic of the interrelationship between urban development and transportation. Only a dynamic and inclusive transport system provides citizens with easy access to education, health, employment, and essential services. Under the Prime Minister’s leadership, schemes such as the Swachh Bharat Mission, Mission AMRUT, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), Metro Rail Expansion, Electric Bus Services, Public Cycle Systems, and Transit-Oriented Development have given a new direction to urban transportation in the country. He stated that our aim is to create a transport system that is inclusive, environmentally friendly, and responsive to the needs of all sections of society.

Haryana Exhibiting Advancement in Urban Mobility

At the conference, Haryana’s Additional Chief Secretary, Dr. Raja Shekhar Vundru, stated that the state of Haryana is setting an excellent example of progress in the field of urban mobility, a role for other states to follow. Highlighting the importance of the conference, Dr. Vundru said that it provides a powerful platform for collaboration between the government, industry, educational institutions, and the general public. It is a platform where we can all share our values.
