Gurugram : Municipal Corporation Gurugram has recently taken important steps to solve the problems of long-standing chaos and leachate flow at the Bandhwari landfill site. Under this, work is being done rapidly towards installing view cutter, road construction and leachate control. Municipal Corporation Gurugram Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya is inspecting the site daily with a team of officials. Various works have been expedited at the site and many schemes have been implemented.

Construction of view cutter, boundary wall and drain continues at a fast pace

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram has started the construction of view cutter, boundary wall and drain at a cost of Rs 2 crore on July 14 and first of all view cutters are being installed on the boundary of the site, so that the view of the landfill from the outside area can be blocked.

Leachate control and garbage removal campaign on the road

MCG has removed the leachate and garbage spread on the road outside the site and shifted it inside the site. This work was done on the night of July 17-18, in which the help of 10 Hiva, 3 Poklane and 2 JCB machines was taken. This not only cleaned the site, but also created a new route so that now the movement of trucks will be limited only inside the site. This will stop the spread of leachate or garbage on Gurugram-Faridabad road.

Permanent disposal of leachate, transportation by tankers to STP

The leachate generated on the site is being continuously transported to the nearest sewage treatment plant through tankers, thereby protecting the surrounding area from pollution. Considering the current quantity of leachate on the site, a new proposal costing Rs 63 lakh has been prepared to transport it to the STP, for which the tender process will be started soon.

Construction of CC road proposed along the view cutter

On the instructions of the Municipal Commissioner, a new estimated proposal of Rs 2.45 crore has been prepared, which includes the construction of a 15 meter wide and 400 meter long CC road adjoining the view cutter. The proposal has received administrative and technical approval on July 17 and the tender was issued on July 18. The tender will be opened on July 29. Construction of RCC drain is also proposed along the road so that the movement of trucks can be smooth and leachate flow can be controlled.

Proposal for additional weighbridge for traffic management

A proposal is also being prepared to set up an additional weighbridge to avoid long waits for garbage trucks and to ensure smooth traffic through two gates, so that better management of entry and exit at the site can be ensured.

Arrangement of generator set for power supply

As per the directions given by the Municipal Commissioner during his inspection, the electrical wing of MCG has installed a DG set at the site, so that the work remains uninterrupted.

According to Chief Engineer Vijay Dhaka, the Bandhwari landfill site has been given a high priority and senior officials are inspecting and monitoring the site daily. These quick and organized steps taken at the Bandhwari landfill site are not only going to provide relief to the nearby residents, but are also a big effort towards a permanent solution to the environmental crisis. The progress of the work will be more clear in the coming days.
