TATA Sons Announces Compensations for Families of Medical Students Lost lives in Ahmedabad Plane Crash

New Delhi : Air India-owned Tata Sons Group has agreed to release compensation for the families of the medical students who lost their lives in the Ahmedabad plane crash on 12th June 2025. The Tata Sons Group has announced this decision after the appeal of the Indian Medical Association. It was reported in the media reports that the Gujarat Branch of IMA requested Tata Sons to provide financial assistance to the students of BJ Medical College who were injured and killed in the Air India flight AI-171 crash near Ahmedabad airport. It was requested by IMA just after the announcement of TATA Sons compensation for passengers.

The Air India plane crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport for London. The plane fell on the hostel mess of BJ Medical College.

It was reported that 33 students of BJ Medical College also died in the accident. After this tragic incident, help was sought from these students and their families.

In a letter addressed to Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran, IMA wrote, “We humbly request you to consider providing financial and necessary assistance to the medical students present at the accident site who were injured or lost their lives in this unfortunate incident.”

The letter further said, “These individuals were not just victims but also the future pillars of our healthcare system. Their families deserve equal care and support. Accordingly, we humbly request you to immediately announce similar support to medical students who were injured or lost their lives.”

N Chandrasekaran Chairman, Tata Sons in his message said that

“We are deeply anguished by the tragic event involving Air India Flight 171.”

He said that ” No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured.  “

He said tha ” Tata Group will provide ₹1 crore to the families of each person who has lost their life in this tragedy. We will also cover the medical expenses of those injured and ensure that they receive all necessary care and support. Additionally, we will provide support in the building up of the B J Medical’s hostel. ”

He said that ” we remain steadfast in standing with the affected families and communities during this unimaginable time. ”
