It is better to stay away from heat wave rather than treating it, i.e. prevention is better than cure. He said that in public interest, advisory has been issued by the district administration and health department to protect from heat wave, which everyone has to follow to maintain health safety.

Adopt these measures to avoid heat wave: DC

The DC appealed to the general public to follow the advisory issued by the administration and stay safe from the heat wave. He said that to avoid heat wave, listen to radio for local weather related news, watch TV, read newspapers, wear light coloured loose cotton clothes in summer, keep your head covered, use clothes, hat or umbrella, drink sufficient amount of water – even if you are not thirsty, stay refreshed by consuming ORS (oral rehydration solution), homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice starch), lemonade, buttermilk etc. Do not leave children in vehicles as they may be at risk of heat stroke, do not go out barefoot, keep a hand fan with you for relief from heat, take short breaks in between work, if you are working in the field, take shelter under a tree or in the shade from time to time. Do not consume junk food in the summer season. Eat fresh fruits, salads and homemade food. Especially do not go out in the sun between 12 noon and 3 pm. If the child feels dizzy, vomits, panics or has severe headache, chest pain or difficulty in breathing, consult a doctor.

The DC said that in the increasing heat, take special care of old and weak people, check them at least twice a day in extreme heat, especially when they are alone, make sure that they have a phone with them, if they are feeling uneasy due to heat, try to cool them down, keep their body wet, bathe them or keep a wet towel on their neck and armpits, along with cooling their body, call a doctor or ambulance, ask them to always keep a water bottle with them.

How to protect your animals from heat wave: DC

The DC said that keep the animals in the shade and give them adequate drinking water, keep them inside the house, keep two bowls of drinking water so that when the water in one bowl runs out, they can drink from the other. If it is not possible to keep them inside the house, then keep them in a shady place where they can rest. Make sure that the place where they are kept should be shaded throughout the day. Do not keep your pet’s food in the sun. Do not keep animals in a closed place. If you have a dog, do not walk it in the heat. Walk them in the morning and evening when the weather is cool. Do not walk the dog on a hot surface (track, tar road, hot sand). Do not leave the animal in the vehicle under any circumstances.
