New Delhi : In a significant boost to India’s agricultural exports, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has facilitated the first commercial export of Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged Rewa Sundarja Mangoes from Madhya Pradesh to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The milestone consignment of one metric tonne was exported on June 26, 2026, by M/s Salt Range Foods Pvt. Ltd., marking the entry of the premium mango variety into international markets. The initiative was undertaken in coordination with the Madhya Pradesh Department of Horticulture, exporters, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), pack house operators and international buyers.

The mangoes were sourced from Seondha Farmer Producer Company Limited and farmer Sonu Gupta from Rewa district, and were processed and packed at an APEDA-facilitated facility in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, before being shipped via Varanasi Airport to the UAE.

Officials said the export marks the beginning of regular international shipments in the coming seasons and is expected to significantly benefit farmers in the Rewa region. While the local market price of the mangoes ranges between ₹100 and ₹110 per kg, exporters procured them at around ₹150 per kg, offering farmers a premium return and encouraging participation in export-oriented supply chains.

The Rewa Sundarja Mango, known for its sweetness, aroma, fibreless pulp and distinct flavour, is expected to gain stronger global recognition through its GI tag, which certifies its geographical authenticity and uniqueness.

APEDA said the achievement highlights the growing importance of GI-tagged agricultural products in global markets and reflects the success of coordinated efforts between farmers, FPOs and government agencies in building export-ready value chains.

The authority added that continued support for infrastructure development, quality compliance and market linkages will further strengthen India’s agri-export ecosystem and create new opportunities for farmers across the country.
