Education Minister Calls IIMs Catalysts of Nation-Building and Economic Transformation

New Delhi : Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday chaired the Coordination Forum Meeting of the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) at the IIM Ahmedabad campus. The meeting was organised by the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education in collaboration with IIM Ahmedabad.

The meeting brought together Chairpersons of the Boards of Governors, Directors of various IIMs, and senior officials from the Department of Higher Education as well as the governments of Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh to discuss issues of common interest and strengthen coordination among the premier management institutions.

Addressing the meeting, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan said discussions focused on the role of IIMs in contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, with emphasis on student welfare, institutional coordination, academic excellence, innovation and global competitiveness. He said the IIMs have emerged as key drivers of nation-building and economic transformation while also establishing themselves as globally recognised centres of excellence in leadership and management education.

The Education Minister stated that by promoting innovation, adapting to emerging global challenges and encouraging values-based education, the IIMs can further evolve into important national institutions contributing significantly to India’s development journey and strengthening the country’s voice in global academic and policy discourse.

Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Shri Vineet Joshi, highlighted the importance of the Coordination Forum in enhancing collaboration and institutional cooperation among the IIMs.

During the meeting, participants deliberated on several key issues, including the contribution of IIMs towards the Viksit Bharat goals, aligning undergraduate entrance examinations with future national requirements, and framing standard operating procedures for MBA admissions, inter-IIM student migration and fee refund policies.

The discussions also covered the development of a secondment policy to provide greater exposure to young faculty members and emerging IIMs, as well as implementation of reservation rosters for faculty and non-faculty positions across institutions.
