New Delhi   : Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia, has issued a statement on the Middle East ceasefire. He has welcomed the agreement between United States, Israel, and Iran to implement a two-week ceasefire aimed at facilitating negotiations to resolve the ongoing conflict in the region.

The Australian PM reiterated its consistent call for de-escalation and an end to hostilities. It highlighted that Iran’s effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, along with attacks on commercial vessels, civilian infrastructure, and energy facilities, has led to significant disruptions in global energy supply, pushing up oil and fuel prices.

He cautioned that prolonging the conflict would have serious repercussions for the global economy and result in a higher human cost.

It also underscored its engagement with international partners to support diplomatic efforts, particularly to reopen the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, ensuring the flow of essential supplies to those in need, especially vulnerable populations.

Australian PM acknowledged the role of regional countries such as Pakistan, Egypt, Türkiye, and Saudi Arabia in advancing negotiations and promoting de-escalation.

Reaffirming its stance, Australian PM expressed hope that the ceasefire will be maintained and called on all parties to uphold international humanitarian law and ensure the protection of civilian lives.
