Chandigarh /New Delhi, March 13: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, said that during the present state government’s 10-year rule, there has been a continuous decline in the crime graph. While the population has consistently increased in recent years, new technologies are being used in crimes; however, the present state government is continuously taking strong measures to put a brake on crime, ensuring safety and security for all.
The Chief Minister was responding to questions raised by the opposition regarding law and order situation during the Governor’s address in the Vidhan Sabha here on Thursday.
He said that in 2014, the present state government took office with a resolve to bring about a change in the system. Since then, there has been continuous improvement in law and order.
Sharing statistics, the Chief Minister shared that in 2014, 1,106 cases of murder were registered, which decreased to 966 in 2024. Similarly, in 2014, 1,944 riot cases were registered, which reduced to 1,772 cases in 2024. In 2023, there were 172 cases of robbery, which decreased to 75 in 2024. In 2014, 1,922 cases of kidnapping were registered, which decreased to 1,540 in 2024. In 2014, 293 cases of dowry murder were registered, which reduced to 177 cases in 2024.
Shri Saini said that the present state government is working on a zero-tolerance policy against narcotic substances. Along with cracking down on drug dealers, efforts are being made to identify and provide timely treatment to drug addicts.
He said that in 2023, 3,823 cases were registered under the NDPS Act, with 5,119 arrests, while in 2024, 3,331 cases were registered, and 5,094 people were arrested. Similarly, in commercial quantities of NDPS cases, there was a 37 percent increase in cases and a 69 percent increase in arrests compared to the previous year. Moreover, in 2024, 54 percent of NDPS cases resulted in conviction, compared to 48 percent in the previous year, shared the Chief Minister.
He further shared that the properties of drug traffickers are being seized and demolished. Additionally, a campaign for drug de-addiction has led to the declaration of 3,350 villages and 876 wards as drug-free.
Strict measures to maintain the sanctity of examinations- CM
The Chief Minister informed the House that the present state government has taken strict measures to maintain the sanctity of examinations. In cases where exam papers were leaked from examination centers, the government acted swiftly by suspending 7 invigilators and supervisors and registering FIRs against them. In addition, 25 police officers, including 4 DSPs, 3 SHOs, and 2 station in-charges, were suspended. Moreover, cases were filed against 4 external individuals and 8 students, informed Sh. Nayab Singh Saini.
The Chief Minister said that based on the investigation report of the MBBS paper scandal, FIRs have been filed against 17 employees and 24 students. The university administration is also taking strict action at its level. Eight employees have been suspended, 9 have been dismissed, and 17 employees have been transferred. In addition, FIRs have been filed against 17 employees.
Strict action against agents sending youth abroad through the ‘donkey route’ immigration
The Chief Minister said that the present state government has taken several steps for the skill development and employment of youth. However, if any youth wishes to go abroad, a Foreign Cooperation Department has been set up to assist them with education, employment, and business opportunities abroad.
He appealed to the youth not to fall prey to agents sending them abroad through illegal routes. The government is taking strict action against such agents involved in the donkey route, he said.
Sh Saini further shared that HKRNL has received in-principle approval from the Ministry of External Affairs for recruiting agent licenses, and soon advertisements will be published by HKRNL regarding this. A bill will also be introduced in this session to curb fraud under the guise of sending people abroad and to regulate travel agents, he shared.
