Jaipur: Congress leader Sachin Pilot has criticised an order issued by the Rajasthan Government’s Education Department restricting access to school premises and prohibiting photography and videography inside schools.
Pilot said the department has introduced the restrictions citing student safety, but questioned provisions that limit the entry of people into school campuses and prevent the recording of activities and conditions inside educational institutions.
He also pointed out that the order provides for legal action against those who fail to comply with the prescribed guidelines.
Questioning the government’s move, Pilot alleged that such restrictions could prevent the actual condition of schools from being brought into the public domain. He argued that instead of strengthening transparency and accountability, limiting media coverage and documentation raises questions about the intent behind the order.
Pilot said the government should focus on ensuring safe, transparent and accountable educational institutions, rather than placing restrictions that could make independent scrutiny more difficult.
He further asserted that the public is capable of understanding the implications of the government’s decision and has already recognised what he described as its underlying intent.
