Union Minister Manohar Lal to Visit Bhutan, Focus on Hydropower Cooperation

New Delhi : Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, will embark on a four-day official visit to Bhutan to further strengthen the longstanding partnership between the two nations, with a key focus on the hydropower and energy sectors.

During the visit, the minister will review the progress of major bilateral hydropower projects, including the Punatsangchhu-I and Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Projects, which form a vital part of the energy cooperation framework between India and Bhutan. He is also scheduled to participate in key project milestones and engage with officials and technical teams overseeing their implementation and operations.

The visit highlights the shared commitment of both countries to deepen collaboration in clean energy, expand cross-border power trade, and support Bhutan’s socio-economic development. Hydropower cooperation continues to be a cornerstone of India–Bhutan relations, fostering sustainable energy generation while strengthening economic ties.

In addition to project reviews, the minister is expected to hold discussions with senior Bhutanese leadership to further advance bilateral cooperation across sectors of mutual interest.
